Grinnell Black Alumni Network (GBAN) Launches
The Grinnell College community is proud to introduce its first Black alumni affinity group, the Grinnell Black Alumni Network (GBAN). Co-chaired by Opeyemi “Ope” Awe ’15 and Noel Green ’94, GBAN is committed to fostering long-term engagement among Black alumni.
“We’re taking the long view,” says Awe. “What will things be like three, five, or 10 years from now? We want to build something that will outlive us.”
GBAN is the third new alumni affinity group established in the past two years, joining the Grinnell Rainbow Alumni and Conexiones. These groups play a key role in Multicultural Reunion events and serve as a vital link between alumni and the College. Awe’s involvement in GBAN grew out of her experience co-chairing the 2021 Multicultural Reunion with Robert Quashie ’86.
