Neighbors helping neighbors shovel their property in winter!
Snow-covered sidewalks can be hazardous for everyone. The Butte Mutual Aid Network Snow Buddies Program pairs those who are unable to shovel with nearby neighbors who volunteer to assist them with snow removal on their sidewalks and walkways.
Along with fostering stronger community relationships and relieving some of the stress that comes from a snowfall or freeze, Snow Buddies make our sidewalks safer for those who are outside during the winter weather – like postal carriers, delivery drivers, firefighters, police officers, and other neighbors.
What to Expect from a Snow Buddy
The Snow Removal Assistance Program provides for removal of snow from the door of the eligible residence to the sidewalk (including steps) and from the public sidewalk along the property (including curb ramps and curb cuts). Volunteers cannot clear snow from cars, driveways, multiple entryways, roofs, etc.
Volunteers will:
- Shovel your front sidewalk, clear the path to your front door, and half of your driveway, if you drive.
- Shovel your sidewalk within 24 hours after a snowstorm ends, as required by City code. Please remember many volunteers have jobs and may need the full 24 hours to shovel your walk.
- Shovel your sidewalk only after a significant snowfall that won't melt within 24 hours.
Please apply here to volunteer your services. Thank you!

Disclaimer: Please be aware, for the most part, our Snow Buddy volunteers are your neighbors. They are not contracted with the City or Butte Mutual Aid Network; we merely serve as a point of contact to help make matches. Butte Mutual Aid Network will do its best to match people, however, if a match cannot be found, residents are still responsible for proper snow removal.
Butte Mutual Aid Network intake volunteers will do their best to ensure the health and safety of themselves and those they serve. We are a network of neighbors helping neighbors. We are not health, legal, or mental health professionals and cannot provide legal and healthcare advice. While we will do our best to match volunteers to your needs, please understand that there may be delays as we work to find a volunteer, and we cannot provide for every request. This may be due to lack of volunteers or requests that fall outside our scope of assistance. We will redirect your request to other organizations when appropriate. For assistance with legal and healthcare matters, please see our resources page. By completing the sign up forms, you agree that you accept all risk and responsibility and further hold any facilitator associated with Butte Mutual Aid harmless.
